BMI (Body Mass Index) formula
BMI = weight [kg] /(height [m] x height [m])
- Healthy BMI = 18.5 to 24.99
- Overweight BMI = 25 to 29.99

- Underweight BMI = < 18.5
Formula for calorie requirements for Men & Women
Men 19 years and over
Calorie Requirements = 864 - (9.72 × age [y]) + PA × (14.2 × (22.5 x height [m] x height [m]) + 503 × height [m])[1]
Where PA is the physical activity coefficient:
- PA = 1.00 if activity is less than 30 minutes
- PA = 1.12 if PAL is 30 to 60 minutes
- PA = 1.27 if PAL is 60 minutes or more
Women 19 years and over
Calorie Requirements = 387 - (7.31 × age [y]) + PA × (10.9 × (21.5 x height [m] x height [m]) + 660.7 × height [m])[1]
Where PA is the physical activity coefficient:
- PA = 1.00 if PAL is less than 30 minutes
- PA = 1.14 if PAL is 30 to 60 minutes)
- PA = 1.27 if PAL is estimated 60 minutes or more
The calculator rounds the calorie requirement to the nearest 100 calories.
